Aug. 15, 2022
There are no reported injuries in the Lawrence Township derailment with a train that had 19 empty tankers and cars.

A train derailed after hitting a truck in Lawrence Township on Monday.

The 19 rail cars were empty, and there are no reports of injuries, officials told The Repository.

The Stark County Hazmat team was dispatched to assist the North Lawrence Fire Department.

Residents were urged to stay away from the area as crews continued to investigate.

"The derailed cars were empty and there is no hazmat leak. Norfolk Southern personnel are on-site and additional support from our contractors is also on the way. We’re grateful for the quick response from local first responders, and appreciate the public’s patience during the cleanup work," Railroad Spokesman Connor Spielmaker told reporters.

Residents said some tankers landed in a nearby creek.
